Probably the best place to sail in Brazil and one of the best in the world, this small village is an amazing spot located about 150 km far from Fortaleza, capital of Ceara state (where the PWA tour takes place since 1997). You can only get there with a 4x4 vehicle but it doesn't matter if you really love windsurfing. When you get there, it's paradise. A beautiful beach, dunes, perfect sunsets, and all that stuff. In addition, perfect wind conditions - at least 20 knots guaranteed, and up to 40 knots from august till November. For freeride/race, you have a big flatwater area; for freestyle/wave, it's also okay: waves up to 2 meters combined with the strong wind makes all the aerial maneuvers possible. The place offers a small number of hotels and inns - you need to book in advance if you wanna find somewhere to stay. It's also possible to rent brand-new equipment there. Last, but not least, it is a lot of good restaurants and night clubs around.

Quote;

Fortaleza is already known as a place of strong winds due to the trade winds that arrive from the African continent, but Jericoacoara is exceptional. This is largely due to Jeri's geographical location. While most of Ceara's coastline runs SE to NW, Jeri's coast runs E W, parallel to the equator and the direction of the trade winds which hit "Jeri" full force since there are no natural obstacles in their path.

Jericoacoara is a beach located in the northeast of Brazil, close to the equator, in the state of Cear?. It was, till about 15 years ago, an isolated fishing village, without any contact with modern civilization. There were no roads, no electricity, no phones, no TV's, no newspapers, and money was something almost useless, since deals were based on trading fish for goods. In 1984 the place was declared an "Environment Protection Area" by federal law. Although tourism has reached the place, because of it's extraordinary beauty, it still keeps the unhurried and peaceful way of life.
